People are victims of people. We lay masks not only to please or to hide our true personality, but because we are also obliged by others…
Many times we must behave different because of those we love… We do not want to show them our true face to do not scare or hurt them. We hide all weaknesses, sorrows, disappointments and fears in the most distant, gloomy and dark “drawers” of our mind for the sake or fear of their words.
.
We hide our tears from the eyes of those we love because we are afraid that we will lose or hurt them, but in the end we are those who hide behind a happy mask all day long. And then… at night… when we are alone… we show our true face to the moon…
And the saddest thing to me is that although we die inside, our outside radiates happiness… We, who run away from ourselves, we are just simple consumers who devour our own inner side with hatred and fear… We let us devoured by loneliness, moments of unhappiness, depression, extreme situations and frustrations which removed us from the routine of “real” life and which shows us that living without reflection about ourselves, we go down on a slide of sensations, rewardings, gossip, lying, passion…
Far away from the core of our beings, avoiding a meeting with us, with our suffering. And so, we avoid to pull out the mask that we want and also those around us.
Not a happy state

There are but 2 kinds of people in the world. Those who cry in the bed in the night and those who laugh all because of what they had done during the day to live with other people.

Thank you. In a way, haiku poems were developed among the common people in the feudal age for some people to keep themselves from crying. 🙂

This all very true. I think it is the biggest shame when one feels he or she must wear a mask for family. These are the people who should be helping us through life’s struggles. At the same time, I feel people should have a right to chose who will see the mask or the real person. Some people can be unjustly critical of others. I’m always interested in your words. Thanks for sharing 🙂

So true. People are victims of people, and of expectation. Society tells us how to look, how to behave, how to feel. So we try to fit in, but there are many times that we feel alone surrounded by millions. To quote Thoreau: ‘Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.’
