Earlier, I introduced Romanian cabbage rolls with polenta, traditional Romanian food for Christmas. I told you also that they are delicious. Now, I’m coming with a story told by my father that circulate in the time of dictator Ceausescu, and that will show you that I am right.

The answer, international menu, did not satisfy the South American president and he asked Ceausescu what is Romanians traditional food and what they drink. Read more here!

Christmas meal: Aspic-like dish (in Romanian: Piftie)
One of the most delicious Romanian dishes for Christmas meal and also one of my favourite.
Piftie is an aspic recipe prepared traditionally. Generally is made from low grade pork meat, such as the head, shank and/or hock made into a semi-consistent gelatinous cake-like form. In some varieties, chicken or turkey are used instead of pork. Some recipes also include smoked meat. Read more here!

Christmas meal: Romanian Pickled Vegetables
Romanian pickled vegetables are another delicious part of Christmas menu. That’s because they can also be eaten without anything near them. But they are also good to get rid of nausea. Because people eat very much meat in this period. Read more here!

That’s another part of Romanians Christmas menu. I taste it some time, but I can’t say I love it. But a lot of people love pork drum. That’s why I write about it. So…

Here we celebrate Christmas with traditional English food but New Year with Romanian food. On Friday we visited Marinela’s Romanian shop in Leeds and the fridge is now full of Romanian delicacies. We will certainly have salata de boeuf on New Year’s Eve and possibly piftie (one of my favourite Romanian foods). At it is also Petronela’s birthday we will have ‘open house’ on 31 Dec so many of our friends and neighbours will be ‘feasting’ Romanian style.
Christmas is quiet, just the two of us, a lovely peaceful day.
Merry Christmas to you and yours Monica. Have a lovely time. Xx
